There are various forms of communication:
Agenda and Remind The agenda and the Remind are the main forms of communication. Here is how they differ: Agenda: Homework: Students will write down any homework or due dates for assignments or presentations. Homework is on an individual basis. That is, if a student doesn't finish work at school, needs extra time or has missed school days, he/she may have homework and will write it in the agenda. Communication regarding child: Any communication in regards to your child only (e.g. award, behaviour, meeting, questions) will be through the agenda Assessments: If not on the remind, students will write when assessments are coming home. Remind: Assessments: Any assessments going home Assignments: Current assignments or activities we are working on as a class as well as due dates Trips: Any upcoming trips/events |
Academic Reflection Form
An academic reflection form is a form that is given to students when they are having difficulty meeting classroom rules/routines or assignment requirements. This is a form of communication on what is happening in the classroom. At the top of the form, there are the learning skills (as seen on the report card). This is to show the correlation between learning skills and academics. The form is filled out by the student so that they can take responsibility for their actions by reflecting and making a plan for improvement. |
Meeting/Phone Call
Sometimes, it is easier to have a meeting in order to discuss your child's progress.
It is important that your child be present during the meetings so that he/she will be able to speak to what difficulties are occurring as well as to become an active participant in the plan for improvement.
If you request a meeting, you will be provided with a form entitled "Request for a meeting". Please fill this out and return to the teacher before the date of the meeting. With 57 students and 57 sets of parents, a form such as this will allow us as teachers to be aware of your concerns in advance in order to focus our attention on the concern and to prepare for some next steps. It will also help you and your child to prepare for the meeting by having these discussions at home ahead of time.
